Sometimes, the fix is as easy as removing the printer/reinstalling the printer - which is still time-consuming. The HP Officejet Pro 8720 is an all-in-one color inkjet printer, scanner, fax machine, and copier whose large size unabashedly dominates any desk it sits upon. I had Canon MX8xx/9xx printers before they didn't have any connection issue and worked well with 3rd party inks. The connection issue still exist with the latest firmware. The ink that comes with it are starter inks and if you have one color depleted it wont print anything (b&w or color) for you until it's replaced. Ink is about 26 per standard crtg but I think that costco has the XL 3 packs (CMY) and puts them on sale for 80 from 100 every now and then.

I had the 8610 and was a lemon for me, always had connection issues and then the powers supply in the printer blew up after mild use (mostly used for scanning and the occasional color print) after a year and a half. The progression from the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 series to advanced units like the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 and others in the 8700 series, provides various upgrades in terms of speed, volume, design and affordability.
